Clindamycin Review
What is Clindamycin?
Generally known as Cleocin, Clindamycin is a prescription acne treatment that works as a lincosamide antibiotic. It is used to treat infections associated with anaerobic bacteria, or bacteria without oxygen. It can treat some diseases such as malaria, but is most often used to treat acne. It is often sold as Dalacin, Clindacin, Cleocin, Evoclin, Duac, BenzaClin, Arcanya, and Ziana.
What Ingredients are in Clindamycin?
But frankly, not every acne causing bacteria is of the anaerobic nature. It can treat many things, but it can increase hypersensitivity to penicillin, and it is only meant to treat mild to moderate cases of acne. Basically, you could treat the same cases with an over the counter treatment that would come with fewer side effects, last longer in its efficacy, and cost quite a bit less. It is far more limited in its uses than other products such as benzyl peroxide.
What Else Should I Know about Clindamycin?
Clindamycin will only work for a very select section of the population in terms of its acne treatment abilities. It costs quite a bit as a prescription, and there are definitely possible side effects, which is partly why it's controlled as a prescription. It is generally meant to be used in combination with other prescription treatments such as benzyl peroxide, which can definitely multiply the costs.
